Of the three common variants of baccarat that can be found at land casinos the version found at an online casino is based on the simplest of these. This article explains the differences and why they aren‘t all offered as casino games in online casinos.
The version of land casino baccarat that the online version is based on is called Punto Banco, the one most common in American casinos. Both hands are played by the Banker and bettor only decides whether to wager on the Player, Banker or Tie Bet.
Chemin de Fer is the most popular version played in land casinos. The bettors play against each other in this version, with both having the option of playing the bank position. The casino only facilitates the game and takes the rake, making the game difficult to adapt for online play.
Baccarat Banque is more similar to Punto Banco, in that players play against the house, with one Banker position and two Player positions. There is one Banker position and two Player positions. The Banker position is played by the casino with fixed rules and without any options. The bettors play the two Player positions, exercising options for the third card. Other bettors can only wager on one of the two Player positions, they cannot wager on the Banker position. Each Player hand is independent and payouts are not affected by the other player’s hand. Since Baccarat Banque also requires two bettors it is not possible to configure this version for online casino play.
